About

I am a vertebrate anatomist and paleontologist interested in the evolution of form and function. I received my B.S. in Zoology from the University of Florida and my Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Ohio University in 2006.

I employ a systems-based approach to understand the evolution of the feeding apparatus and locomotor system in lizards, crocodilians, birds, and their stem-group, fossil relatives including dinosaurs and croc ancestors. My research utilizes dissection, imaging, histology, and biomechanical modeling among other techniques. Ongoing projects include the evolution of jaw muscles an the temporal region in reptiles, biomechanics and evolution of cranial joints and sutures, and cartilage physiology.

I am significantly involved in medical education where I teach Clinical Anatomy to medical students and facilitate surgical anatomy training for senior medical students and residents. I train graduate students and undergradruates in topics in vertebrate anatomy and evolution.
